How much a turnkey renovation costs

What affects the price

  • Size and condition of the home

The area sets the amount of work and the condition sets the starting point: bare walls in a new build, demolition in a home with an old renovation.

  • Cosmetic or major

A major renovation that replaces wiring, pipes and screed costs much more than refreshing the finishes.

  • Materials

The grade of tiles, flooring and bathroom fixtures often affects the cost estimate as much as the labor does.

  • Complex finishes

Large-format tiles, multi-level ceilings and decorative plaster take more time and experience.

  • Design project

With a finished design project the estimate is more accurate; without one, decisions are made on the go and the total often grows.

Prices come from specialists' profiles on Nexperity and update automatically. You agree the final price with the specialist directly.

How to choose a contractor

  1. 1

    Finished projects

Look through renovations similar to yours in the portfolio, and ask whether you can see a site the contractor is working on now.

  2. 2

    Who will do the work

Ask whether the contractor has their own crew or hands electrics and plumbing to others, and who answers for their work.

  3. 3

    A detailed estimate

Ask for an estimate with quantities and prices for each type of work, and agree how changes will be approved.

  4. 4

    Paying by stage

Pay for completed and signed-off stages, not the whole amount upfront. Put the work schedule in writing.

  5. 5

    Photos of hidden work

Ask for photos of the wiring and pipes before they are covered with screed or tiles. They will come in handy whenever you need to drill the walls.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • Apartment or house, floor area and number of rooms

  • Condition: a new build without finishes or an apartment with an old renovation

  • Scope: a full renovation or separate rooms — bathroom, kitchen, a single room

  • Whether there is a design project, and who will buy the materials

  • Preferred start date and cost estimate — separately for labor and for materials
