Custom furniture making — kitchens, wardrobes and walk-in closets

Custom furniture is made to your measurements: a kitchen planned around pipes and outlets, a floor-to-ceiling sliding-door wardrobe for an alcove, or a bed no store has. Describe your idea in an order, and makers will send responses. Or choose one yourself — by portfolio, prices and client reviews.

How much a custom kitchen costs

What affects the price

  • Size and layout

Kitchens are often priced per running meter, but corner units, floor-to-ceiling cabinets, sloping walls and working around pipes or a duct box complicate the design and raise the cost.

  • Carcass material

Laminated chipboard, MDF and solid wood differ in price and cope differently with moisture near the sink or in a bathroom.

  • Fronts and countertop

Foil-wrapped, painted or wooden fronts and a chipboard, engineered stone or quartz countertop — these often change a kitchen's cost the most.

  • Hardware

Soft-close hinges, full-extension runners, lift-up mechanisms for wall cabinets and sliding-door systems come in different grades, and their prices differ noticeably.

  • Delivery and installation

Delivery, carrying upstairs, installation and cutouts for the sink and cooktop may be included in the cost or charged separately.

Prices come from specialists' profiles on Nexperity and update automatically. You agree the final price with the specialist directly.

How to choose a furniture maker

  1. 1

    Measuring on site

Agree that the maker takes the exact measurements. Ask whether measuring is paid and who is responsible if a wardrobe does not fit the alcove because of a measuring mistake.

  2. 2

    A design before production

Ask for a drawing or a 3D visualization with dimensions and approve it before the boards are cut. Have the kitchen design ready before the final finishing: outlets, water and the hood are placed to fit it.

  3. 3

    Materials in the estimate

Ask for the carcass and front materials, the make of hinges and runners and the countertop type to be written into the estimate — this makes responses easier to compare and the delivery easier to check.

  4. 4

    Similar work in the portfolio

Look for furniture like yours in the portfolio — kitchens with painted fronts, floor-to-ceiling wardrobes built into an alcove. In the photos, check whether the gaps between fronts are even and the edge banding is neat.

  5. 5

    Lead time and deposit

Ask how many weeks production will take, what share has to be paid upfront and what happens if the deadline is missed. Put the agreement in writing.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • What to make: a kitchen, a sliding-door wardrobe, a walk-in closet, a bed or a table — and for which room

  • Approximate sizes: wall length, height to the ceiling, alcove depth

  • Front material and color, if you have already chosen them

  • For a kitchen — straight or corner, which appliances to build in and where the water and outlets are

  • Whether delivery and installation are needed, which floor it is and whether there is a freight elevator

  • Whether the renovation in the room is finished and when you want the furniture
