Inverter, power station, generator and solar panel installation

Need an inverter in an apartment, a power station wired into the electrical panel, a generator connected to a house or solar panels on the roof? Describe what has to keep running during outages, and installers will send responses. Or choose one by photos of installed systems and client reviews.

How much inverter installation costs

What affects the price

  • Single-phase or three-phase

A three-phase system for a house needs a different inverter, five-core cable and more panel work than a single-phase one in an apartment.

  • What to back up

To run only the boiler and a few outlets from the inverter, those circuits are moved to a separate group in the panel, while backing up the whole home takes more powerful equipment.

  • Distances and cable runs

The farther the inverter or generator is from the panel, and the solar panels from the inverter, the more cable, conduit and time it takes.

  • The roof under the panels

Metal tile, corrugated sheeting and flat roofs need different mounts, while on the ground the panels go on a separate frame.

  • Switching and protection

An automatic transfer switch costs more than a manual changeover switch, and surge protection and new breakers in the panel add to the cost if you don't have them yet.

How to choose a backup power installer

  1. 1

    Your inverter brand

An installer who has already fitted your inverter brand knows its settings and typical faults. Look in the portfolio for similar systems — in an apartment, with a generator or on a roof.

  2. 2

    Sizing for your appliances

Ask them to calculate the load of the appliances that will run at the same time: the inverter's power and the battery capacity depend on it.

  3. 3

    Switching between sources

Ask how the installer will switch your home between the grid and the generator — a manual or automatic transfer switch: power must never come from two sources at once.

  4. 4

    Roof mounting

For panels on the roof, ask how the installer will fix the frame and what they will seal the roof penetrations with, so the roof does not leak.

  5. 5

    Setup and warranty

Check whether the installer will set up the inverter for your battery type, show you how to use the system, and give a warranty on the installation.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • What needs installing: an inverter with batteries, a power station, a generator, a UPS or solar panels

  • Apartment or house, single-phase or three-phase — if you know

  • Which appliances must run on backup power: boiler, fridge, pump, router

  • Whether the equipment is already bought — make and model of the inverter, power station, generator or panels

  • Where the equipment can go: a storeroom or balcony for the inverter, a spot outdoors for the generator

  • For solar panels — the roofing type and the approximate area of the roof or plot
