Carpet and upholstery cleaning — at your home or with pickup

Carpet and upholstery cleaning is for when the sofa has coffee stains, the cat has claimed an armchair or the carpet has gone gray and smells dusty. Say in an order what to clean, the fabric and whether you need pickup — cleaners will send responses. Or pick one yourself by their portfolio photos.

Carpet and upholstery cleaners

How much sofa and carpet cleaning costs

What affects the price

  • Carpet area and pile

Rugs and wall-to-wall carpet are usually priced per square meter, and long or dense pile takes longer to rinse and dry than short pile.

  • Wool, silk and handmade

Wool, silk and viscose rugs, as well as handmade pieces, are cleaned with gentle products and more carefully than synthetics.

  • Furniture size and build

A sofa is often priced by the number of seats, and a corner section, loose cushions, removable covers and a fold-out sleeping area add work.

  • Old stains and urine odor

Old wine or paint stains and urine odor that has soaked into the filling need separate products, so they are often charged extra.

  • On site or in a workshop

Cleaning at home with an extractor and washing in a workshop with a drying room are priced differently, and carpet pickup and delivery may be charged separately.

How to choose a carpet and upholstery cleaner

  1. 1

    The cleaning method

Ask how they will clean your item: with an extractor, foam or steam. Velour, flock, leather and wool pile each need their own method and products.

  2. 2

    A test patch

Ask for the product to be tested on a hidden spot first: bright upholstery and wool rugs can bleed or change color.

  3. 3

    Drying and water marks

Ask how long the furniture or carpet will take to dry after wet cleaning: too much water leaves marks on light fabric, and damp filling starts to smell musty.

  4. 4

    Will your stains come out

Ask in advance whether your particular stains will come out: paint, ink and stains someone has already tried to remove with household cleaners can often only be made fainter.

  5. 5

    Before-and-after photos

Look in the portfolio for before-and-after photos on similar items — light velour, a leather sofa or a long-pile carpet.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • What needs cleaning: a sofa, armchairs, chairs, a mattress, a rug or wall-to-wall carpet — and how many items

  • For a rug or carpet — the size or area, pile height and material, if you know them

  • What the upholstery is: velour, basketweave, chenille, leather or faux leather — and its color

  • What the soiling is: old stains, pet hair, urine or tobacco odor

  • Cleaning at your home or taking the carpet to a workshop — and in which district
