Video editing to order — color grading, VFX and post-production

Video editing of footage you already have: a YouTube video, Reels with subtitles, music video color grading or a green screen swap. Describe in an order what was filmed and what you need, and video editors, colorists and VFX artists will respond. Or send a request to someone whose style you like.

How much video editing costs

What affects the price

  • Amount of footage

An editor watches everything that was filmed and picks the usable takes, so hours of footage from several cameras matter as much as the length of the finished video.

  • Length and formats

Editing is often charged per minute of finished video or per video. A vertical version for Reels next to a horizontal one is a separate edit, not just a cropped frame.

  • Depth of color grading

Matching white balance and brightness between shots is simpler than building a look of its own for every scene. Footage shot in a Log profile looks washed out without correction.

  • Complexity of VFX shots

Replacing an even green background is simpler than cutting out hair and hands frame by frame or removing an object from a scene where the camera moves. VFX is often priced per shot.

  • Titles, subtitles and music

Translated subtitles, animated titles, licensed music and stock footage are often charged separately from the editing itself.

How to choose a video editor

  1. 1

Full videos of a similar format

A showreel is a selection of the most striking seconds. In your order, ask for links to whole videos like yours in the responses: they show the pacing, the cuts and whether the middle drags.

  2. 2

    Color from shot to shot

Look in the portfolio for frames before and after color grading or VFX: skin should stay natural, and colors should match from shot to shot.

  3. 3

    A rough cut first

Agree to approve a rough cut without color or effects first: rearranging scenes at this stage is simpler than after color grading and VFX.

  4. 4

    Rights to music and stock

Ask where the music, stock footage and fonts come from and whether the video can run in ads with them: because of someone else's track, YouTube may block the video or pass its revenue to the rights holder.

  5. 5

    Project file and software

If you will edit the video later or hand it to someone else, ask which software the editor uses and whether they will hand over the project file along with the finished video.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • What kind of video: a YouTube video, Reels, a wedding film, an ad or a music video — and where it will be published

  • How much was filmed: hours of footage, number of cameras, whether sound was recorded separately and whether it was shot in Log

  • The length you want, number of videos and formats: horizontal, vertical, square

  • What you need besides editing: color grading, subtitles, titles, background replacement or object removal

  • Two or three examples of videos whose editing and color you like

  • Payment, deadline and whether you need the project file for future edits
