Bridal styling — hair and makeup for the bride as a package

Bridal styling means hair and makeup that suit the dress and veil and must last from getting ready in the morning until evening. Give the date, area and look you want in an order, and stylists will send responses. Or send a request to a stylist whose portfolio has brides in a similar style.

How much bridal hair and makeup cost

What affects the price

  • What the package includes

A trial look, fixing the veil or flower crown, false lashes and hair accessories are part of the package with some stylists and paid for separately with others.

  • How complex the hairstyle is

A voluminous updo on long, thick hair or with clip-in extensions takes more time and product than a light style on a bob.

  • One artist or two

When hair and makeup are done by two artists at once, getting ready goes faster, but you pay for both artists' work.

  • Place and time of getting ready

Travel to a hotel outside town or to several addresses in one morning adds to the cost, and getting ready at dawn is often charged more.

  • Staying through the day

If the stylist stays until an outdoor ceremony, touches up the look between locations or restyles the hair for the evening, that time is usually charged separately.

How to choose a bridal stylist

  1. 1

    Brides in the portfolio

Look for actual brides in the portfolio: with a veil or flower crown, in wedding photos taken in daylight, not only retouched studio shots.

  2. 2

    A trial with accessories

Bring the veil, jewelry and a photo of the dress to the trial: that way the hair and makeup are matched to the whole outfit, and you see how the look comes out in photos.

  3. 3

Holding up to wind and dancing

Ask how the stylist secures the hair so it holds up to a veil, wind and dancing, and what they use to set the makeup so it survives heat and tears.

  4. 4

    The wedding morning schedule

Agree on when the stylist starts, how long each look takes and in what order they will be done, so the bride is ready before the photographer arrives.

  5. 5

    Reviews of the morning itself

In client reviews, look for whether the stylist stayed on schedule and created the look agreed at the trial.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • What you need: hair and makeup together, a trial look, or only the look on the wedding day

  • The style you want — soft, classic or Ukrainian — and whether there will be a veil, a flower crown or jewelry

  • What your hair is like: length, thickness, whether it holds a style well

  • Whether anyone else needs a look: mothers, bridesmaids

  • The area and kind of place you get ready in — at home, a hotel or a studio — and by what time everything must be done

  • The wedding date, the preferred day for the trial, and payment
