Tire service — tire change, wheel balancing and repair

A tire change twice a year, a punctured tire or a rim bent in a pothole. Tire technicians' profiles show client reviews and prices for tire changes and storage — pick a technician and send them a request. Or list the car, tire size and job in an order, and technicians will send responses.

How much tire service costs

What affects the price

  • Rim size, profile and vehicle type

The price is usually set by rim diameter, with separate prices for low-profile tires, crossovers and SUVs: such wheels take longer to mount and balance.

  • Whole wheels or just tires

If winter and summer tires sit on separate rims, it is enough to swap the wheels. Remounting tires on the same rims is more work.

  • Run-flats and pressure sensors

Tires with reinforced sidewalls and wheels with pressure sensors are mounted more carefully, so price lists often show them as a separate line.

  • The state of rims and fasteners

A rim rusted to the hub, rusted fasteners or locking bolts whose key was lost add work to a regular tire change.

  • Storage: on rims or off

The price per season depends on the size and number of wheels and on whether you leave the tires on their rims or off them.

Prices come from specialists' profiles on Nexperity and update automatically. You agree the final price with the specialist directly.

How to choose a tire technician

  1. 1

    Equipment for your wheels

Large rims, low profiles and run-flats need a suitable tire changer. Ask whether the technician works with wheels of your size.

  2. 2

    Tightening the bolts

Ask whether the technician tightens the wheel bolts with a torque wrench to the carmaker's specification, not just with an impact wrench.

  3. 3

The cost for the full set

Ask for the cost of changing the full set including balancing: price lists often show wheel removal, mounting and balancing separately.

  4. 4

How the puncture will be fixed

Ask what will seal the puncture: a plug goes in from outside without removing the tire; a patch or a mushroom plug is fitted inside, with the tire off the rim.

  5. 5

Where the tires will be stored

If you leave tires for the season, ask whether they are kept in a dry, dark room and whether each wheel is marked with its position on the car.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • Make and model of the car, and body type: passenger car, crossover or minibus

  • Tire size as shown on the sidewall, and whether there are pressure sensors or run-flats

  • What needs doing: a tire change, balancing, puncture or rim repair

  • Whether the tires are already on rims or need remounting

  • Whether you need tire storage, and for how long

  • When it suits you to bring the car to the tire shop
