Programming tutor for kids and adults

A programming tutor can help with a first game in Scratch, school computer science or olympiad problems, and teach an adult Python from scratch. Compare tutors by the languages they teach, prices and reviews — or give the student's age, goal and level in an order, and tutors will respond.

How much programming lessons cost

What affects the price

  • Language and difficulty

Visual Scratch blocks for a younger schoolchild and C++ algorithms for an olympiad call for very different preparation from the teacher.

  • Student's age and lesson length

Younger children do well with a shorter lesson, while adults often prefer longer lessons with practice, so the price is set per lesson or per hour.

  • Working on your project

If the lessons are built around your own bot, website or game, the teacher has to work through someone else's code in advance — that takes extra time.

  • Code review between lessons

Comments on code the student wrote on their own and answers to questions between lessons may be included in the price or paid separately.

  • Online or in person

An online lesson with screen sharing and a lesson with the teacher coming to your home usually have different prices.

Prices come from specialists' profiles on Nexperity and update automatically. You agree the final price with the specialist directly.

How to choose a programming tutor

  1. 1

    Who the tutor has taught

Kids starting from scratch, schoolchildren before an olympiad and adults learning for work need different approaches. Ask whom the teacher works with most often, and in which programming languages.

  2. 2

    Projects in the portfolio

Look in the portfolio at the games, websites and apps the students or the teacher have made. You can also ask for links to the teacher's code repositories.

  3. 3

Who writes the code in a lesson

In the first lesson, pay attention: it is a good sign when the student types the code and the teacher only hints at where to look for the bug.

  4. 4

    Plan and practice

Ask whether there will be a plan from the basics to a project of the student's own, and whether the student will get practice tasks between lessons.

  5. 5

    Code editor and Git

Ask whether the tutor will teach working in a code editor and with Git, as in real projects, or whether every lesson stays in an online sandbox.

What to put in the order

The more precise the description, the more precise the prices in responses.
  • Who will study: you or a child, and the student's age

  • Programming language or area: Python, JavaScript, C++, Scratch or school computer science

  • Current level: from scratch, you know the basics, or you already write your own programs

  • Goal: the school curriculum, an olympiad, a university course, your own project or learning for work

  • What computer the student has: a laptop or a PC, Windows or macOS

  • Format: online or in person, how often to study and payment per lesson
